It was 1994
and a hot summer afternoon accompanied me to do the homework of Mathematics
while listening to RadioActivo 98 1/5 FM ... one afternoon on Martin
Hernandez's show, a song stole my concentration and took my thoughts like many
good songs in that year "Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers - Mary Jane Last
Dance" a melody that presented a base of classic folk rock with a very etherial
chorus. I could not let it pass, so I prepared my cassette of 60min and I
listed it exactly in the last song I had recorded ... I could not miss the next
time to record it ... after that afternoon this song accompanied me many months
in my cassette which led to school .. I could imagine that beautiful orange sun
outlining the horizon and the warm afternoon wind while listening to that song,
even in the subway brings me that feeling ... several years later in 2001 a
friend asked me to do graphics for a collection of printed T-shirts with pics
of Rock, Electronica and Popular Topics without falling into the classic brands
or nor mentioning or making very present to some artist ... I made several
graphics and in the end they were about 5 and of all my collection was one
image without selecting that I liked very much ... A little Rocker Bird a
Petty, for me, Tom Petty and a small tribute to eveyone who saw this drawing.
I kept it
for many years in a folder and until yesterday afternoon I decided to search it
busily to finish my idea and vision for the farewell of such an excellent
musician.
Thank you
very much for excellent albums and for being a company from the 80's with a
song that in my childhood I also liked very much and until I was listening to
the complete albums I found "Free Falling", "Lerning to
Fly", "Yer so Bad "etc. Thank you so much Petty for being such a
great inspiration in those years ... and the ones that remain for me and your
music is still on my playlist
